It’s Raining Flowers, 2003

I was in the mood to make something surrealistic, which happens quite often. So here we have a bouquet of flowers flying through the sky as they tumble downwards.  Some of the flowers have petals shaped like birds. A tumbling flower seems like it might be the home of one of the birds flying around it!

The petals of the flowers are also helping their flight.

Everything in this painting is topsy-turvy.  Just like in life, who knows what really is about to happen. Anything can happen, I cannot even dream it up in this painting!

This painting was just to have some fun and play around with the idea of flowers, birds, flight, and future times. I used rich dark colours in the  background with a creamy chocolate feel. The flowers were painted in sharp contrast to the background, drawing the attention of your eye. The painting is very flat with no texture, smooth and sharp for contrast. There is a feeling of wind pushing things like an invisible hand.

She’s a Leopard Too: Tapestry

My mother, who is a tapestry weaver, really liked this painting. She made a beautiful tapestry based on it that is just the same size as the original. It is included here.
