Masquerade, Series 1995-1996

Approximately 60.96cm X 121.92cm, Oil on Canvas

All my paintings with staircases or steps refer to the sensation of becoming lost and needing to find one’s way. Note that these staircases sometimes start out of nowhere and/or have no end…

More specifically, the staircases symbolise the predicaments humans create for themselves. People then have to somehow find a solution to resolve the problem that they have created, even when it looks impossible to do so.

The bird does not need a staircase, however, and moves only by instinct. The bird can fly and does not think these staircases are a problem, but humans do because that is their nature!

She’s a Leopard Too: Tapestry

My mother, who is a tapestry weaver, really liked this painting. She made a beautiful tapestry based on it that is just the same size as the original. It is included here.
