Side Table 1 Mussoorie

These photos were made recently, that means that the side tables are more than 20 years old and used.

The subject matches the centre table, but everything is painted larger. That is, the smaller tables have extra-large butterflies and leaves. The comparatively larger subjects on the smaller tables are the result of the kind of impact that I wanted to make. It is quite interesting when you use the tables and put things on it, like books or teacups. The look of the painting on the tables changes and transforms it into a three-dimensional painting.

There is one small table which looks a little different. It depicts a bird’s nest with little eggs. This connects with the recurring bird theme in many of my works over the course of the last 50 years.

I remember roaming in the farmers’ fields with my younger sister during my childhood in Belgium. We would look into hedges and see little nests there with eggs. We were scared to touch anything just in case something would go wrong with the eggs and the baby birds would not be born.

Recurring subjects in my paintings:

  • Eyes
  • Birds
  • Monkeys
  • Orange accents

She’s a Leopard Too: Tapestry

My mother, who is a tapestry weaver, really liked this painting. She made a beautiful tapestry based on it that is just the same size as the original. It is included here.
