Gayatri’s Portrait, 2005

76.2cm X 76.2cm, acrylic background, portrait  in oil paint.

This is Gayatri, a girl who was around 12 years old when I painted her. She looked like a small angel, she had an angelic personality and was intelligent. When Gayatri was small, she was never allowed to have long hair, it was cut as short like that of a boy. In this painting you can see that she is starting to grow her hair.  She has happily  decorated herself with a bright little hairband. Notice her compelling eyes. Her traits are reflected and clearly visible in the portrait.

Gayatri is now going to college and has grown up into a tall, beautiful, willowy girl with really long wavy hair that is always tied up.

I was so happy with the result of this painting that I decided to do a full series of portraits in the same genre.

She’s a Leopard Too: Tapestry

My mother, who is a tapestry weaver, really liked this painting. She made a beautiful tapestry based on it that is just the same size as the original. It is included here.
